SPECIALIZED LASER CLEANING & RESTORATION

Based in Baton Rouge, LA and serving the Gulf South, Specialized Laser Cleaning & Restoration offers its highly mobile, made in the USA laser technology to address a broad range of needs.  Our cleaning services are provided by trained laser operators in our facility or on location at your worksite.  We also offer short and long term rentals.

Specialized Laser is bringing technology originally invented for cleaning historic architecture, monuments, and art to industry and individuals for their unique cleaning and restoration needs.

This exact technology is being used by the US Army, US Air Force, US Coast Guard, US Park Service, and Smithsonian Institute on projects ranging from preserving military assets to restoring the Notre Dame Cathedral after the 2019 fire.

We also offer free testing to determine if laser cleaning is a solution for your unique needs.

How Laser Cleaning Works

Laser cleaning works based upon how surface contaminants (rust, paint, anti-corrosion coatings, hydrocarbon deposits, process residues, etc.) absorb light.  Our lasers direct high frequency light pulses at the surface being cleaned which excites the contaminant molecules and causes them to be vaporized or eject off the surface.  The light only affects the contaminant layer, leaving the base material unharmed.  Due to the fact that our lasers utilize pulsed light waves as opposed to continuous waves, there is also very little heating of the substrate, making it safe for use on many common materials.

The infrared light beam produced by our lasers make it useful on a range of surfaces including metals, metal alloys, inorganics, ceramics, masonry, concrete, stone, tile, and some wood.  Our lasers are among the most highly tunable on the market allowing for setting adjustments to effectively remove a broad range of contaminants from many different surface types.

As opposed to blasting, grinding, or other conventional techniques, laser light applies no force to the item being cleaned and subsequently there is no removal of the base material, no bending, no warping.  This makes laser cleaning an ideal solution to preserve the life span of working assets and as a method to restore high tolerance components, sensitive architecture, antiques, etc.

Lasers

Specialized Laser offers portable units up to 300 watts of power.  These units are 16 ¼” wide, 22” long, weigh approximately 90lbs, and has a 17’ umbilical to which the working handpiece is attached.  The 300W is the most compact, powerful laser on the market, is air cooled, runs on a standard wall outlet, and can be maneuvered into position by one or two individuals.  Its power is more than adequate for most applications.  Due to its small footprint, this unit offers unmatched access to anywhere on your worksite whether onshore or offshore.

When higher power is required, we offer units up to 2000 watts that are narrow enough to fit through a standard doorway and are mounted on custom shock absorbing casters.  These units offer an umbilical up to 300’ in length.

All of our lasers have the ability to attach a fume extractor, a hazardous material capture device, and are compatible with robotic arms or crawlers for larger scale projects.
