LASER CLEANING

From industrial assets to historical buildings and nearly everything in between, our laser cleaning and restoration technology provides safe, non-contact method for removing contaminants from a broad range of surface materials.

TECHNOLOGY

Specialized Laser uses pulsed wave lasers to direct high intensity, rapid pulses of light at the workpiece allowing for an effective cleaning without significant transfer of thermal energy.  This technology is what allows for delicate materials to be laser cleaned without damage.  Our laser units allow for a high degree of tunability across five important settings:

  • Lens Length (longer lens reduces energy intensity, while shorter lens increases intensity)
  • Pulse Duration (length of time over which the pulse is transmitted, measured in nanoseconds)
  • Energy Output (wattage can be set from 5W to 300W)
  • Frequency (the number of pulses emitted over a given time)
  • Scan Speed (dictates the amount of pulse overlap)

The flexibility of these settings ensure that the subject piece is properly cleaned without damage to the underlying substrate.

LASER CLEANING ADVANTAGES

The use of laser light for contaminant removal provides many advantages over other surface cleaning methods:
  • Environmentally friendly (does not produce additional waste like other cleaning methods)
  • On-site cleaning available
  • Cleans irregular surfaces, corners, cracks and surface pores that aggregates, water, sanding and brushing cannot reach
  • Removes all moisture, preventing rust, and can provide a primed surface for painting immediately with a protective coating
  • No damage to the item being cleaned resulting in longer lifespan
  • No force applied to the subject item, thus no base material removal, bending, or warping
  • Our laser technology is portable and small enough to access any OSHA-compliant workspace
  • Powered by standard wall outlet
  • No consumables
  • Minimal setup
  • Small footprint
  • Effective on metal, ceramics, masonry, stone, tile, and some wood
  • Safe for operators and bystanders with basic PPE
